						 <p>Hi folks, this is my first post, my question is; what is the lowest price to print something,<br /> say, something the size of a professional camera with lens, no inside parts, just an exterior,<br /> lots of small poly's and surface's thought… so, what can I espect the price to be?<br /> just a general figure, no need for any exact numbers here, the main question is; is it affordable?</p> <p>By the way, I am a painter and sculptor, all art here, no working models or maquettes :)<br /> just cool forms and shapes</p> <p>Thx in advance</p>

						 <p>Quite a bit. Rapid Prototyping has several advantages. One: it is addative manufacturing (building the object, not cutting stuff off a cube), and you will only use what is needed. Two: It is very simple to understand, and to use it you just upload files to the software, fill the extruder, and click build. Three: It is very versatile, and almost any material can be used.</p>

						 <p>Until recently, I did not know how it worked either. What it does is it spreads sugar out on the extrusion platform, and blasts hot air at the sugar to melt it, then let it harden.</p>

						 <p>Fab@home uses silicone, RepRap uses ABS, PLY, CAPA, HDPE, etc. , CandyFab uses sugar, Z-corp uses magic z-corp material box stuff. Everyone uses something different, although the idea is generally to create a solid object, no matter what material you are using.</p>

						 <p>It is the most common reprap material. Probably because they cannot work with much more. Beyond reprap, I know little. Really only open source projects share material makeup. Why would z-corp tell everyone how to make the binder for their printer? Also, You cannot make plastic at home (unless you have a lab with a large plastic chemistry knowledge), but rather, if you look under most bottles, they mark their makeup. Post what you have found in the new material section of the forum. So far I have heard of: ABS, HDPE, LDPE, CAPA, Polylactic Acid, and Polycaprolactone.</p>

						 <p>Sort of. That is really how all rapid prototyping is. The droplets, (I reasearched) really solidify a powder. The Fab@Home project has made one, but it is still "under development".</p>
