Sandals-The Start of a Revolution

Imagine a world where you design your own shoes, and print them off the computer. A normal shoe would cost only a few dollars, and you designed it. If you do not want to design a shoe, you buy the .STL for 20 cents. This is the first of a series of items like it. Its inspiration was Adrian Bowyer's door handle, and he made a shoe too. Of course, his shoe was not padded.

Step One

First, you will need to print off one of Adrians shoes. We will have our own later, but untill then, see www.reprap.org. You will probably want to print it first in frosting, to test the scale, and fit it to your foot. You do have both a thermoplast and syringe extruder, right?

Step Two

When it is done, DO NOT MOVE IT! Instead, take the shoe file, import it into blender, and delete everything except the sole of the shoe. Also, raise the design a tiny bit. Then, export it back into .STL.

Step Three

Print the design off, right on top of the thermoplastic part. Leave the silicone to cure overnight.

Step Four

Take the parts and assemble them by melting the parts together. Now you have a shoe! Time for the other one…
